Jedi mind tricks

March 12, 2007

There’s a new cool game controller that will land on the market in the near future (?).

 Braincontroller

Imagine taking charge of your hero of choice in your favourite FPS only by the slightest touch of a thought. Then in some intense shoot-out fire off a round of burning missiles just by concentrating.

This is a very logical successor of the handheld controllers we have had for some time now. And it’s probably going to be less than perfect in the beginning, but with developer packs and some enthusiasm, this is going to transform the way we all interact with computers, games, and social newtorks!

From the Emotiv Systems website:

“Project Epoc is a headset that uses a set of sensors to tune into electric signals naturally produced by the brain to detect player thoughts, feelings and expression. It connects wirelessly with all game platforms from consoles to PCs. Project Epoc now makes it possible for games to be controlled and influenced by the player’s mind. “

Brain Pwnage?

What is Analemma?

March 5, 2007

Well, if you did’t know. Let me give you a hint.. It has to do with how the sun moves about. When documenting the suns position, and how it shifts with time, you will find a pattern, a shape if you so will, called Analemma.

Spiffy! Now.. What does it look like?

Here’s a picture and a link to the source! From the excellent Haklab’s Flickr photostream

Analemma

If you would like to take a look visit the Nasa website for the Cassini-Huygens Spacecraft. There’s some amazing pictures of Saturn, never seen before.

Here’s a preview for you!

Saturn in shadow

From the Nasa site:

“Between the blinding light of day and the dark of night, there is a strip of twilight on the globe where colorful details in the atmosphere can be seen. Bright clouds dot the bluish-grey northern polar region here. In the south, the planet’s night side glows golden in reflected light from the rings’ sunlit face. “

Beautiful!

1,920 tonnes of magnet

March 5, 2007

This beast of a repelling/attracting thingy has just been put in the ground near the French-Swiss border, it’s all part of a craaazy experiment to find the origin of matter. A cause that I for one find very satisfying. It makes sense to try and find out what we are really made of..

Giant Magnet

From the Times Online:

“Scientists involved in the 15-year experiment — smashing particles together at high speed — could bring new knowledge to the secrets of the universe, such as the possible existence of multiple dimensions. “

Hux Flux reloaded

The name of the blog is now simply: Hux Flux

To celebrate the blog seems to have put on a new outfit!Happy Flux

So, the stereotypical evil geniuses (the description ‘genious’ may be a bit drastic but they haven’t been stopped yet..) at the Pentagon seems to be constantly coming up with new ideas on how to make us all in to obedient little citizens. From Wired’s blog comes this article about a new report from Pentagon, the report states amongst other scary things:

”To counter these new threats, technology exists, or could be developed, to provide new levels of spatial, temporal, and spectral resolution and diversity. Furthermore, the ability to record terabyte and larger databases will provide an omnipresent knowledge of the present and the past that can be used to rewind battle space observations in TiVo-like fashion and to run recorded time backwards to help identify and locate even low-level enemy forces. For example, after a car bomb detonates, one would have the ability to play high-resolution data backward in time to follows the vehicle back to the source, and then use that knowledge to focus collection and gain additional information by organizing and searching through archived data.

Big Brother

Here’s a direct link to the report. Read and get with the programme. A new time is coming, not too soon, we can all hope!

Remote controlled pigeons?

February 28, 2007

Yes, finally the remotley controlled flying pigeons are here!

Check out this hillarious (but sadly, true) story covered by amongst others, wired magazine.

From slashdot’s report they also link to these Experimental Networking Protocols, using these new robotic flying critters.

The first one is named: A Standard for the Transmission of IP Datagrams on Avian Carriers

And the other one: IP over Avian Carriers with Quality of Service

Check it out!

Star Trek in the making

February 28, 2007

Slashdot writes: “Paramount today announced the new Star Trek film is scheduled for release on Christmas Day 2008. The studio also confirmed the film will be directed by J. J. Abrams, who said the film will ‘embrace and respect’ Trek canon, but will also ‘chart its own course.’ Also today, rumors are outclaiming Matt Damon, Adrien Brody and Gary Sinise will play Kirk, Spock, and Scotty, respectively.”

Nemoy replaced by Brody

Good actors and good director too i guess, but can this really be a StarTrek movie with any credibility? I sure hope so!

Tricorder?!

February 28, 2007

No not yet..

The ScienceDaily writes about a new hand held device to analyze chemical components anywhere, i.e. outside a lab. It’s kind of like the tricorder in StarTrek.. Or at least it tries to be.. Have a look!

Not yet a 'true tricorder'..But still!

Hello humans!

Today is the first day of this blog, to start things of I have something of interest for you.. Just click this link to start learning about qubits!

After you have read up on that.. Take a look at D-Wave Systems on wikipedia!

Now you should have a basic understanding about the future of quantum computing. Stay on it! More to come!
